Dedicated to the memory of Linda Hewitt

This site is a tribute to Linda Hewitt, who was born in Dymchurch on December 31, 1955. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Linda passed away on the 25th January 2016 from ovarian cancer. This was the second time in her life that she had battled cancer. The first was breast cancer, a six year ordeal that exemplified the extraordinary and special person she was. Demonstrating the true meaning of courage, strength and dignity in the face of extreme adversity.

Whilst saying this, she did not want cancer to define her. She never was a victim. She loved her life and lived it to the full. She never bemoaned her fortune, she just counted her blessings and made the most of what she did have and appreciated them more.

A key aspect of Linda was her vocation as a teacher. She changed her original career path to work at Macintyre Homes in Westoning for disadvantaged children with learning disabilities. From there she went to teachers training college in Bedford. Then going to St. Joseph’s school and then finally to Pilgrims school, until she had to retire due to ill health. She loved these times and it’s where she made a huge contribution and had such a massive impact on children and staff alike.

She loved music, playing French horn in a quintet for many years, piano and guitar at school and latterly joining the village community choir Unisong. All of which gave her so much comfort and pleasure and which she entered into with her usual good grace, charm and enthusiasm. In her spare time she also enjoyed walking, gardening, scuba diving and kayaking.

Of course her main vocation was as a devoted and much loved wife, mother and grand mother.

Linda meant so many things to so many people.  She touched and affected people’s lives in such an inspirational, caring and loving way.

May she rest in peace, until we meet again.
